Japanese American Services of the East Bay, Inc. (JASEB) provides assistance and services for seniors and their families in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. JASEB operates a senior center and lunch program, provides information, assistance and case management services, owns two community homes in which the care and supervision of residents are the responsibility of the families in these exempt from licensing facilities, and is the co-sponsor of a HUD-subsidized congregate apartment building.

RECENT NEWS: JASEB Hires New Executive Director

Executive Director Mark MuranoJapanese American Services of the East Bay, Inc. (“JASEB”), a senior service agency serving the elderly community in the San Francisco East Bay for over 37 years, announced the hiring of Mark Murano as its new Executive Director. He was selected after an extensive search process and replaces Bruce A. Hironaka, JASEB’s Board President, who has been serving as the interim Executive Director for the past ten months.

“We are very excited by Mark joining JASEB at this critical juncture of the agency’s history. We believe his long-time experience in both the private and public sectors have provided him with the management savvy to lead JASEB forward,” remarked Mr. Hironaka. “Also, his personal experience in dealing with senior issues will be invaluable.”

“I am thrilled to be joining JASEB and I look forward to working with the community, the staff, our donors, our volunteers, and the JASEB Board to provide needed programs and services,” stated Mr. Murano, who was born and raised in southern California. His father was a Nisei and his mother is a Shin-Issei. He holds a B.A. degree in English from UCLA.
